Com­ple­tion of the basic engin­eer­ing phase of the Leuna Demo Plant

In Feb­ru­ary 2014, Glob­al Bioen­er­gies (IBB net­work memer) entrus­ted the Engin­eer­ing Divi­sion of tech­no­logy com­pany The Linde Group with the mis­sion to deliv­er the basic engin­eer­ing study upstream of the con­struc­tion of its demon­stra­tion plant. Last week, the two com­pan­ies are glad to announce that this phase has now been com­pleted suc­cess­fully. Markus Wolp­erdinger, Vice Pres­id­ent Bio­tech­no­logy Plants at Linde’s Engin­eer­ing Divi­sion said: ​“We are proud to deliv­er to Glob­al Bioen­er­gies a com­plete basic engin­eer­ing pack­age for its pro­cess to con­vert sug­ars into isob­utene, a gaseous hydro­car­bon. This one-of-a-kind demo plant will be an import­ant mile­stone on the way to the com­mer­cial­iz­a­tion of Glob­al Bioen­er­gies’ innov­at­ive bio­tech­no­lo­gic­al pro­cesses”. Rick Bock­rath, VP chem­ic­al engin­eer­ing at Glob­al Bioen­er­gies, added: ​“We are now ready to move on to the next phase of the pro­ject, ded­ic­ated to the con­struc­tion and exploit­a­tion of the demo plant.” The demo plant, expec­ted to be installed in the Fraunhofer CBP build­ing at the Leuna com­plex, is asso­ci­ated with a EUR 5.7m grant from the Ger­man Fed­er­al Min­istry of Research (BMBF).
