Elec­tro­chaea grows and expands headquarters

Elec­tro­chaea, one of the world’s lead­ing power-to-gas tech­no­logy com­pan­ies, based in Ger­many, Den­mark and the USA, is expand­ing its site in Planegg near Munich in response to the com­pany’s oper­a­tion­al and com­mer­cial expan­sion. Demand for altern­at­ives to fossil nat­ur­al gas is increas­ing. Elec­tro­chaea is there­fore fur­ther expand­ing its capa­city for power-to-gas bio­meth­ana­tion pro­jects based on its pro­pri­et­ary tech­no­logy.

The com­pany has developed and launched a pro­cess that uses bio­meth­ana­tion to pro­duce car­bon-neut­ral gas from green hydro­gen and cap­tured CO2. This pro­cess replaces con­ven­tion­al fossil-based nat­ur­al gas with BioCat Meth­ane, a renew­able gas that can sig­ni­fic­antly reduce green­house gas emis­sions, store energy from renew­able sources in large quant­it­ies, and secure invest­ments in exist­ing gas dis­tri­bu­tion and stor­age infra­struc­ture.

Elec­tro­chaea was recently named to the Tech­Tour Growth Top 50 list as one of the fast­est grow­ing tech­no­logy star­tups in Europe, with a valu­ation of over €100 mil­lion and the poten­tial to become a uni­corn — a com­pany val­ued at over €1 bil­lion.

The team grows, the Planegg site grows with it

Since 2022, the Elec­tro­chaea team has grown from 32 to 50 employ­ees. In par­tic­u­lar, the sales team has received addi­tion­al rein­force­ment to fur­ther drive com­mer­cial pro­jects and mar­ket devel­op­ment in Ger­many and abroad. The oper­a­tions team has also been enlarged with addi­tion­al exper­i­enced cleantech experts and engin­eers. With the expan­sion of the site, there is also now more space avail­able to fur­ther devel­op the bio­meth­ana­tion tech­no­logy. New admin­is­trat­ive staff has also been hired to ensure smooth oper­a­tions in all depart­ments.

For­ward-look­ing eco­sys­tem for cleantech com­pan­ies

Elec­tro­chaea has expan­ded to an addi­tion­al 800 m² in a mod­ern and sus­tain­able build­ing in Planegg near Munich, close to the exist­ing labor­at­ory and product devel­op­ment facil­ity. In recent years, Planegg, a muni­cip­al­ity in the dis­trict of Munich, has become a thriv­ing eco­sys­tem for start-up and growth com­pan­ies in the fields of bio­phar­ma­ceut­ic­als, bio­tech­no­logy, thera­peut­ic pro­teins, cus­tom­ized stem cells, renew­able energy, and plant and mech­an­ic­al engin­eer­ing to loc­ate and grow here.
