Electrochaea grows and expands headquarters
Electrochaea, one of the world’s leading power-to-gas technology companies, based in Germany, Denmark and the USA, is expanding its site in Planegg near Munich in response to the company’s operational and commercial expansion. Demand for alternatives to fossil natural gas is increasing. Electrochaea is therefore further expanding its capacity for power-to-gas biomethanation projects based on its proprietary technology.
The company has developed and launched a process that uses biomethanation to produce carbon-neutral gas from green hydrogen and captured CO2. This process replaces conventional fossil-based natural gas with BioCat Methane, a renewable gas that can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, store energy from renewable sources in large quantities, and secure investments in existing gas distribution and storage infrastructure.
Electrochaea was recently named to the TechTour Growth Top 50 list as one of the fastest growing technology startups in Europe, with a valuation of over €100 million and the potential to become a unicorn — a company valued at over €1 billion.
The team grows, the Planegg site grows with it
Since 2022, the Electrochaea team has grown from 32 to 50 employees. In particular, the sales team has received additional reinforcement to further drive commercial projects and market development in Germany and abroad. The operations team has also been enlarged with additional experienced cleantech experts and engineers. With the expansion of the site, there is also now more space available to further develop the biomethanation technology. New administrative staff has also been hired to ensure smooth operations in all departments.
Forward-looking ecosystem for cleantech companies
Electrochaea has expanded to an additional 800 m² in a modern and sustainable building in Planegg near Munich, close to the existing laboratory and product development facility. In recent years, Planegg, a municipality in the district of Munich, has become a thriving ecosystem for start-up and growth companies in the fields of biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, therapeutic proteins, customized stem cells, renewable energy, and plant and mechanical engineering to locate and grow here. Mich Hein, CEO of Electrochaea GmbH, said, “Planegg is an ideal location for us to attract talent and capital from around the world. We are very happy to be here and benefit from the good connections, innovative service providers, state-of-the-art infrastructure and an attractive quality of life. In this inspiring working environment, we are even better equipped to continue the market development for Electrochaea’s biomethanation technology even further.”
