BIO­MAC Open Call up and running

Munich/​Thessaloniki, 07.06.2023 (Presse­Box) — aving entered its third year, the Horizon2020 fun­ded European Sus­tain­able BIO-based nan­o­MA­ter­i­als Com­munity (BIO­MAC), www​.bio​mac​-oitb​.eu, has suc­cess­fully launched and nearly com­pleted its Open Call phase. Applic­ants still have the oppor­tun­ity to sub­mit a pro­pos­al and devel­op their bio­ma­ter­i­al or bion­an­o­ma­ter­i­al pro­jects from TRL4 to TRL7 in this one-stop-shop col­lab­or­at­ive environment.

What is BIO­MAC about? 

Due to their unique chem­ic­al and phys­ic­al prop­er­ties, nan­o­ma­ter­i­als find a wide range of applic­a­tions. In order to exploit their poten­tial in a sus­tain­able envir­on­ment, the BIO­MAC pro­ject brings poly­mers and nan­o­ma­ter­i­als derived from renew­able raw mater­i­als togeth­er to form innov­at­ive com­pos­ite mater­i­als. 17 pilot plants and 11 ser­vice part­ners cov­er the entire value chain in an open innov­a­tion test bed struc­ture (OITB), from pro­duc­tion and mar­ket­ing to sus­tain­ab­il­ity analysis.

Added value

BIO­MAC offers all aspects of bio-nan­o­product devel­op­ment under one con­cep­tu­al umbrella. Users profit from the expert­ise of 11 SMEs, 3 large com­pan­ies and 3 asso­ci­ations, as well as sev­er­al renowned sci­entif­ic insti­tu­tions. Instead of hav­ing to com­mu­nic­ate with part­ners indi­vidu­ally, the BIO­MAC OITB can be accessed through a single entry point (SEP) con­sti­tuted by the IBB Net­zwerk GmbH (IBB). The IBB assumes an inter­face func­tion and medi­ates between customers/​applicants wish­ing to have new products developed sustainably.

Test cases wanted!

A key aspect of the BIO­MAC pro­ject is the eval­u­ation of the OITB concept via so-called test cases (TECs). Com­pan­ies and aca­dem­ic insti­tu­tions wish­ing to take their product devel­op­ment from TRL 3 /4 to TRL 7 can apply to the cur­rent Open Call. Selec­ted pro­jects will be developed using the infra­struc­ture, expert­ise and pro­ject man­age­ment of the open innov­a­tion envir­on­ment free of charge. 15^th June 2023: Final sub­mis­sion date: Last day for sub­mis­sion of test case proposals.

The selec­ted test cases will be imple­men­ted by the BIO­MAC con­sor­ti­um from Septem­ber 2023 until Decem­ber 2024.

BIO­MAC — European Sus­tain­able BIObased nan­o­MA­ter­i­als Community

BIO­MAC is an Innov­a­tion Action (IA) star­ted in Janu­ary 2021 that will run until Decem­ber 2024. The pro­ject has received fund­ing from the European Union’s Hori­zon 2020 Research and Innov­a­tion Pro­gramme under Grant Agree­ment No. 952941. EU’s con­tri­bu­tion is € 14 807 314,50 on a total budget of € 16 596 702,50.
