Let’s shape the future economy!

München, 02.06.2022 (Presse­Box) — This year’s Inter­na­tion­al Sus­tain­able Eco­nomy For­um (ISEF) kicks off a recur­ring event series. It brings togeth­er all stake­hold­ers, regard­less of raw mater­i­als, meth­ods, and products, work­ing to jointly tackle not only the chal­lenges of cli­mate change but also a reas­on­able and feas­ible trans­form­a­tion to a viable future economy.

A future eco­nomy may include many strategies and approaches, referred to as Bioeconomy, Green Eco­nomy, CO₂ as raw mater­i­al,​“Zero Waste”, Cir­cu­lar Eco­nomy /​“Cradle to Cradle”, Recyc­ling (mech­an­ic­al, chem­ic­al), Hydro­gen Eco­nomy, and Indus­tri­al Bio­tech­no­logy, the lat­ter as a poten­tially gentle and envir­on­ment­ally friendly con­ver­sion method.

All these efforts are out­stand­ing, use­ful and neces­sary. How­ever, none of these strategies is com­plete and none can con­sti­tute a com­pre­hens­ive guideline for a future viable eco­nomy on its own. What is appar­ently miss­ing, is an under­ly­ing prin­ciple or a​‘uni­fy­ing ele­ment’ that com­bines the pos­it­ive aspects of all these strategies. This prin­ciple can only be ​“sus­tain­ab­il­ity” with its three pil­lars: effi­ciency, con­sist­ency, suf­fi­ciency. All ambi­tions and approaches must suf­fice these claims.

ISEF enables the exchange of act­ors of sus­tain­able eco­nomy across the bound­ar­ies of indus­tri­al sec­tors and provides space for dis­cus­sion and exchange to scru­tin­ize the dif­fer­ent approaches accord­ing to the cri­ter­ia of sus­tain­ab­il­ity, to identi­fy bar­ri­ers for stake­hold­ers in imple­ment­a­tion and to pro­pose meas­ures to solve them. As a res­ult, ISEF aims to for­mu­late policies required to advance a sus­tain­able economy.
