Electrochaea, Biomethanation

Electrochaeas technology relies on a special, selectively evolved methanogenic microorganism, a patented archaea strain, with an exceptionally high methane production capacity. More specifically, water is hydrolysed to hydrogen (and oxygen) using electricity from renewable energy sources.

Hereafter, the microorganism is able to convert hydrogen and carbon dioxide under moderate conditions (110 bar, 62 °C) to pipeline-grade biomethane. The process has been dubbed biomethanation”.
