KIT, bioliq

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) developed a technology named bioliq®, converting residual dry biomass, e.g. straw and other biogenic residues, into synthetic fuels, like high-quality petrol. The stages of the process include: (decentralized) fast pyrolysis, high-pressure entrained flow gasification, hot gas purification and synthesis. bioliq® is environmentally friendly and fully compatible with conventional petrol. In principle, the bioliq® concept can also be used to produce fuels for diesel engines and aircraft. KIT successfully runs a pilot plant since 2014, producing one ton of fuel per day.
