Research into DMF synthesis process from current biomass through catalyst-based reactions

Even though this application did not reach industrial level up to now this pathway for DMF synthesis from biomass seems to be quite promising (Review Hoang et al., 2021). In the reaction from cellulose via sugars, 5‑hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is an important intermediate on the way to produce DMF. Especially the presence of metal-acid bifunctional catalysts, which possess both a hydrogenation metal and deoxygenation component, has been shown to greatly benefit the conversion of DMF.
