CASCAT GmbH is a young, innovative spin-off of the Technical University of Munich. Founded in July 2014, it is based at the Gründerzentrum Straubing. CASCAT stands for the combination of sustainable chemistry and synthetic biotechnology. The company is specialized in the development and provision of (chemo)-enzymatic reaction cascades for the utilization of renewable raw materials. In addition to the identification and optimization of suitable enzymes, the central fields of activity are the cost-effective provision and implementation of efficient processes with combined use of several catalysts. The optimal coordination of different catalysts represents one of the most important parameters for industrial utilization. The developed processes allow the realization of artificial cascade reactions that enable entirely new synthesis pathways or reduce already established synthesis pathways to a minimum.
The technology platform allows CASCAT to provide basic chemicals as well as fine and specialty chemicals using new processes. Partnerships on a licensing basis are being sought for the large-scale production of basic chemicals. The company’s own product portfolio covers fine and specialty chemicals.
