The Chair of Biopro­cess Engin­eer­ing researches and teaches all aspects of the tech­nic­al util­iz­a­tion of bio­lo­gic­al sub­stance trans­form­a­tions. The chair has pilot plants and labor­at­or­ies with com­plete infra­struc­ture for the cul­tiv­a­tion and ana­lys­is of microor­gan­isms and cells from 1 mL — 200 L scale, as well as vari­ous work­shops. Both on labor­at­ory and pilot plant scale, bio­lo­gic­al trans­form­a­tions can be invest­ig­ated in dif­fer­ent biore­act­ors and new products and pro­duc­tion pro­cesses can be developed. To this end, bio­tech­no­lo­gists and engin­eers work togeth­er in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary team and cooper­ate with sci­entif­ic and indus­tri­al part­ners in the phar­ma­ceut­ic­al and chem­ic­al indus­tries as well as in equip­ment and plant construction.
